FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. How do I know if I’m ready for this ride?

The most important thing to know is that the objective is to have fun! You have five hours to finish the ride, so you must be off the course by 3:00 pm. On this year’s 42 mile course (68 km), that’s an average of 8.5 mph (13.5 kph). We recommend that you train for that distance with hills and be able to complete it at that pace before participating in this event. But remember that we do have support vehicles in case you have a mechanical breakdown or are physically exhausted and cannot continue.

2. Is Ruta del Vino a fun ride or race?

It’s both! If you would like to ride for fun, register with a regular entry. If you would like to engage in our friendly competition (no points awarded), register in the Elite category for a chance to be the 1st, 2nd or 3rd place male or female. Prizes include new Bianchi bikes, trophies and a $2,800 cash purse!

3. Can my family and friends wait for me at the Finish Line?

Absolutely! As you pedal past 25 wineries, they’ll be enjoying the the best wines and gastronomy the region offers. The family-friendly Wine Festival opens at 10:00 am and features food, wine tasting, and live music. And entry to the party is free!

4. What does my ticket include?

Your entry includes chip timing (both regular and Elite); four aid stations with bike repair, first aid, purified water and Powerade; a 500ml bottle of Powerade; a finisher medal; sweep trucks; commemorative wine glass with a 150ml tasting of your choice; full medical support; and accident insurance.

5. Where do I pick up the T-shirt or jersey I pre-ordered?

You can redeem the holographic sticker you received at purchase at the Wine Festival area from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Supplies are limited, but stock is guaranteed. If we don’t have your size left, we will make more or refund your money.

ALL participants must be registered regardless of age, and minors (18 years or younger) MUST be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Also, please note that the accident insurance policy only covers participants 8 years of age or older. However, if you choose to ride with a minor, they will enjoy the same benefits as the adults, including the medal!

You will have five hours to complete the course. The ride starts at 10:00 am and you must complete the event by 3:00 pm, reaching each aid station before its scheduled closing time:

  • Aid Station #3 (San Miguel), closes at 1:30 pm
  • Aid Station #4 (El Tigre), closes at 2:30 pm

10. What if I can’t finish the ride?

If you can’t finish, we will give you a ride to the Wine Festival. Stop and rest along side the road (stay visible!), turn your bicycle upside down, and wait one of our four sweep trucks to pick you up.

11. What does the accident insurance cover?

Our accident insurance covers registered participants ages 8-69 years of age, remain on the course within the established schedule, who are in good health and properly equipped to participate. The policy offers medical reimbursement up to $50,000 MXN (about $2,775 USD) with a deductible of $500 MXN (about $28 USD) per person, per event.
